In Shock to the System Chad Allen reprises his role as Donald Strachey, a gay private eye, which he first played in last year’s Third Man Out.

In this second Strachey mystery, Allen investigates the death of a young man who had days earlier cryptically reached out for his help. The death is ruled a suicide, but Strachey is determined to find out for himself what really happened. The investigation leads Strachey into the bizarre world of the ex-gays movement and eventually to the truth.

Shock to the System lacks suspense and is easily predictable, but was still interesting to watch. Of course it doesn’t hurt that Chad Allen is also quite enjoyable to watch! I’m sure this isn’t the last Strachey mystery we’ll be seeing.
