Joining the Masses

When it comes to technology I consider myself to be an early adopter. When the iPod first came out I bought one. When the second generation Nano was released I upgraded to it. When I was in high school and broadband became available I convinced my parents to have it installed. When HDTVs came onto the market I bought one. When they introduced DVR service I signed up. The one thing I’ve never been an early adopter of is cell phones.

I’ve had a cell phone since my junior year of high school, but I’ve never really used it for anything other than as a phone. I’ve never gotten into text messaging and I’m probably one of the last people in America that doesn’t have a camera phone or Bluetooth. I have the wireless web, but I only use it to check the news if I’m sitting around someplace bored. But that’s all in the past now.

On Saturday I went to the Sprint store and upgraded to a new MOTORAZR V3m. The RAZR’s been out for a couple years now and is hardly a novelty anymore, but it was a big upgrade for me. The Bluetooth will be nice when I get a new Macbook Pro in October and can synchronize my contacts. The camera will give me the freedom to shoot a picture of something interesting no matter where I am. I also get Sprint TV as part of my new package, so next time I’m waiting around I don’t have to read CNN, I can watch it instead.

The one thing I still don’t think I’m ready for is the Bluetooth headset. For some reason it still creeps me out every time I see someone walking down the street seemingly talking to themselves.
