I just got done watching the documentary Jesus Camp and honestly I’m almost speechless.
What the Evangelicals in this documentary put their children through is shocking. They can call it whatever they want, but it is brain washing and it is mentally abusive.
Children do not have enough of a world view to be able to make radical and absolute decisions regarding their beliefs. How is an eight or nine year old supposed to take a stand on abortion when they don’t even clearly understand how a child is conceived or the medical and socio-political issues surrounding why women have abortions.
Why are small children being told that they need to be part of the Army of God and it’s alright for them to be a martyr for God? How does that make the Evangelicals any different than radical Muslims? They themselves even admit that other religions are recruiting and radicalizing children so they need to catch up. Sick.
The Evangelicals are full of hypocrisy and that point couldn’t have been illustrated any better than the segment featuring Teg Haggard. Ted is on stage preaching to his congregation and gives a speech condemning homosexuality. This is of course the same man who several months ago was outed as having a long term sexual relationship with a gay male prostitute.
Another disturbing scene was when they brought out a cardboard cut out of George Bush and had the children bowing down and praying to it. They even had a special anti-choice chant to cheer him on. Why are children being indoctrinated into the Republican Party? Don’t they realize that the Republican’s are just using them and could really care less about their radical agenda?
These people are corrupting an entire generation of American children. I can only hope that as they grow up and are exposed to the realities of our world that they question what they’ve been told and learn to think for themselves.
